Cholesterol neither hurts nor is noticeable. More than 50% of the adult population in Spain have high cholesterol, but do not know it or do nothing to reduce it.
Cholesterol is a fatty substance that, in normal amounts, is necessary for the proper functioning of the body and is transported in the blood. There are two types: HDL cholesterol or ‘good cholesterol’ and LDL cholesterol or ‘bad cholesterol’.
The ‘good’ is responsible for collecting excess cholesterol from cells and expelling it from the body, while the ‘bad’ cholesterol carries cholesterol around our body and deposits it in the tissues. When the ‘bad’ level is above the recommended level, cholesterol reaches the tissues in greater quantity and accumulates in excess on the walls of the arteries.
Tips to lower cholesterol
The most advisable thing is to perform moderate daily exercise: the practice of some sport or physical activity on a regular basis increases the concentration of good cholesterol in the blood.
It is important to follow a healthy, varied, balanced diet low in saturated fat: a greater amount of vegetables (2 servings) and fruit (3 servings) should be part of your daily diet. It is good to add or increase healthy fats, since the intake of oily fish and nuts provides healthy fats to your body.
Watch the weight : it is important to carry out a periodic control. People with obesity are more likely to have cholesterol problems.
Also, it is recommended to consume cholesterol-lowering dairy products, which lower your levels quickly and effectively. You must bear in mind that cholesterol is not played with and must be taken seriously. Good intentions are not enough.
