Foods with folic acid, not only for pregnant women!

Many will think that folic acid, or vitamin B9 , is a nutrient that only pregnant women should take . However, and although they should consume it to prevent diseases or malformations of the baby as much as possible , we should all consume foods rich in folic acid to take advantage of its many benefits.

To begin with, its benefits range from the formation and production of red blood cells, to protection against heart disease, through the reduction of nervousness or depression, sleep disorders, anemia or the improvement of digestion.

However, why many of us think that only pregnant women should pay attention to this vitamin is because folic acid prevents neural tube defects at birth. This tube is the part of the baby that will become your spinal cord and brain. Thus, it prevents the malformation of this neural tube as well as spine bifida.

What foods are rich in folic acid?

– Legumes, especially beans and lentils, which are also a source of iron and prevent anemia.
