False myths about diet: potatoes make you fat

Food is one of the common topics that has more myths around it, however, many of them end up being false. For a long time it has been affirmed that the potato is fattening and that, therefore, it had to be eliminated from the diet. The potato is not only not fattening, but also has many nutrients that make it a food that can replace many others. In the nutritional branch it is assigned as “vegetable C”, which is very similar to cereals, but without as many calories. This food is capable of replacing all types of cereal, causing an improvement in our health.

The potato itself is not fattening, what is fattening is the way of preparation

The potato has about 80 calories per 100 grams of food and about 80% water. To give us an idea: the caloric content of 100 grams of boiled potatoes is equal to the caloric content of yogurt or an apple, that is, minimal. The subject in question changes when the potatoes are fried, the oil and fat they contain are what really make you fat. The same thing happens with pasta. This food itself is not fattening, but it all depends on how we prepare it.

If we cook it boiled it can help us lose weight considerably, it does not consist in lowering the consumption of potatoes, but the consumption of fried foods, including French fries. On the other hand, it is  a very satiating food , so we will not need to eat large quantities to feel full. This plays in our favor, since the best diet is to eat without excesses, of any kind. It is no longer so much what we eat, but how we eat it. If, despite eating a healthy diet without abundant amounts, we cannot lose weight, then we have to visit a nutrition specialist who will tell us which are the best foods for our body.
