However, sometimes factors intervene that can disrupt our diet, as is the case with gestational diabetes. Diabetes is caused by the excessive increase in blood sugar, and in the case of pregnant women it can appear around the middle of pregnancy, disappearing after giving birth. However, if it is not controlled, it can cause the baby to be born with more weight and have a tendency to develop obesity.

Diet for gestational diabetes in pregnancy

To control gestational diabetes, a diet similar to those for weight loss is established due to the absence of fats and sugars. Its objective is to keep blood sugar levels stable, since if it is not possible to do so through this method, it is necessary to resort to insulin injections.

A diet to control gestational diabetes is based on the consumption of 1,500-2,000 calories per day, distributed as follows: for breakfast, milk or yogurt and a piece of whole meal toast with tomato and fresh cheese; for lunch a turkey sandwich; at lunch a small portion of whole carbohydrates, vegetables and meat or fish; fruit and yoghurt for a snack and for dinner a salad or soup and another portion of protein. to snack between meals you can take fruits that do not have a high percentage of sugar.

It is recommended to eat at least every three hours, and regularly check your blood sugar level with the help of a glucometer. If the levels are very high, you can do some light exercise, such as walking, to help reduce it.
